Hi guys. If I have any readers left, that is.
I'm really busy over the next week or so with Academic Bowl and finals, so I'm going to focus on finishing the semester and then I'll take up this blog again :)
See you in a week or two!

Playing Catch-up: March
Ok. Lemme pause to think back.
Table of Contents:
--ASL Idol
--new piercing
--Spring break
--Fyeth
I think that is all :)
ASL Idol:
I auditioned for ASL Idol where we sign music or sign poetry/stories. Of course, I signed music. I did "The Best Damn Thing" by Avril Lavigne and then "Like A Boy" by Ciara. There were 9 total contestants, and I advanced to the top four (or was it five? I don't remember) but didn't make it in the top three (the judges didn't like my second song as much, so that blew it for me. My first song was AWESOME!)
New Piercing:
I got a new piercing. (Duh.) It's a lip piercing, on the right side of my lip. I love it so much. Right now, there's a ring in it, but I'm switching between a ring and a stud. I like them both; it just depends on how I wanna look--the ring makes me look more...how do you say...tougher? It's more punk-ish and whatever it just makes me look different. With my stud, it's cleaner, more classic and "pretty"...This piercing makes ten altogether :). I'm planning on getting my nose pierced next, and now there's a new piercing on my list! (Thanks, Fred/blue fuzzies! xoxo)
Spring Break:
um. Let's just say what happens in spring break stays at spring break. But I'll just divulge a leeetle bit of detail. I went to Acapulco, Mexico for spring break with MTV's Student City. It was craaazy and I had a blasttt.
Fyeth:
My mom, the extreme hardcore cat lover, got a dog. She's a Deaf Australian cattle dog. Gray with black spots all over. Super adorable. With one brown and one icy blue eye. Unfortunately, a week or so later, she realized how much she liked cats better and gave the dog back to the animal shelter...
I was gonna take her and keep her for myself, but then my dad said he didn't want to have a dog in the house when I came home for summers, so there went that plan.
I'm still heartbroken over losing Fyeth.
SOOO, that's it really...
next post, Catching up on the last two weeks or so and what's up with me now...
(Side note: today, I'm going out to dinner with my sister (College Sister) and a couple of friends for her early birthday dinner, so that'll be fun :D )

Playing Catch-up: February
I can't really remember just what happened back in February, but two obvious things were the Vagina Monologues and the cheerleading competition, so I'll talk about these today.
Vagina Monologues was an awesomely cool experience for me. I signed "My Vagina Was My Village". It was a monologue about women in Bosnia who were raped as a war tactic. It's a horrifying, sad story.
I enjoyed watching everyone perform, and the backstage was fun as well. We all had a blast doing the whole show, and I am definitely interested in doing more things like it.
Because of Vagina Monologues, I'm interested in setting up an organization on campus that works against rape--especially since there were a couple of rapes reports the weekend after the play. We attended a workshop called SAFER (Students Active For Ending Rape) which is committed to making campuses 'safer'. I might be doing something like it next year, so keep your eyes open if you are interested in helping/contributing.
And the cheerleading competition.
It was crazy cool! It is an entirely different experience from high school cheerleading competition, and so much more advanced. There were five colleges altogether, including us, I think. We came in fourth, but we were like ten points away from being in third place, so that's really good for our little squad. We only had 9 cheerleaders/stuntmen while the other squads all had at least 20 or 25 cheerleaders.
So I'm really proud of our team and SO EXCITED for next season. There should be a lot more people joining us and a lot more advanced stunts. I can't wait!
I think that's everything of importance in February. Feel free to hit me upside the head if there's anything I forgot :)
Tomorrow, the next installment in Playing Catch-up...the March issue! It's a lot more exciting than this one, I promise :)

Hi again.
*dodges flying tomatoes*
Ok. So I'm back, for reals now. I hope.
I've been neglecting this little blog of mine because well, I felt like there was nothing to talk about.
Until I realized that there IS a lot to talk about. Duh. My life is totally blog fodder.
SoOoOoooo, I'm going to try to start blogging again--especially with this upcoming summer where I know there'd be a lot to talk about.
I'll be playing catch-up for the next couple of posts--I have to catch you, my beloved readers up on what has been happening lately don't I? Don't I? ANSWER ME!
Anyhoo...
For now, I leave you with this snippet of my newest obsession in music: The Climb by (I'm embarrassed to even say this) Miley Cyrus. Okokok, she sucks, and I'm sick of Hannah Montana, but this song is....wow.
"There's always going to be another mountain.
I'm always going to want to make it move.
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes I'm going to have to lose.
Ain't about how fast I get there,
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side,
It's the climb."
Sheer poetry, I tell you.

I'm giggling with glee.
Ok, so yes, I'm still alive.
It's almost the end of the week so now the first week and half of the semester is almost done already. It still feels like just yesterday that I was arriving here, but then everyone says that.
I know that I haven't posted in like forever, but I was trying to wait until something funny or exciting happened to me, because I didn't want any old post saying I did this, I went to that class...I know you're not interested in that kind of thing
Anyway, the reason I posted today was to share my glee about my finally being accepted into the English major!
Everyone keeps saying, oh why are you even wondering if you'd make it, it's a given, you'd make it in without batting an eyelash.
But let me share my story of my horrible paper last semester.
Ok, we had a 8-12 page paper due at the end of the class last semester, and I had to pass that class with a 78% or above to make it into the major. That paper was also almost 50% of my grade, and hence I really had to do well on the paper to ensure that I'd get in.
So, I was really struggling with understanding just what the teacher wanted us to do with the paper. I typed it up, handed it in, and the teacher was like, "Oh, not quite, you need to organize it better." Um. Ok. So I overhauled my paper and changed the order of it and everything and basically turned in a completely different paper in. Again, "Oh, not quite. You're not really focusing on the theory and how it applies to the book." What?!?!?
Then the teacher'd send out general feedback, "Some of you have a problem with this, and some of you have problems with that." I'm like...does that apply to me? I don't think it does. But what if it does?...so you can see where I was stuck at.
So during our group discussion, someone asked a question and it was like a lightbulb suddenly shining above my head. Oh. OH. OH. I get it now.
So I overhauled my paper again and then handed it in, and the teacher was like, "Yes! That's it!" It took me everything to prevent myself from jumping up and dancing on top of her desk.
Soooo then that was my first (third) draft, and after her feedback, I went back and edited it some more, and then asked her for a final review before handing it in for the deadline. But no, she was too busy. So I basically had to hand in my first (third) draft without any more editing and improving.
See why I was nervous? Who hands in their first draft for the final grade? But it turns out, I undestimated my first draft writing abilities. I got a 85% on it, and then got 86% overall in my class. So.
Ready, let's all do it together.
*wheeewwwwwwwwww*
That was last semester. I just found out today that I have offically been accepted into the English major! :D
So if you see some random person jumping around, giggling manically, with a huge smile on her face, that might be me. Just maybe.

Bye-bye, kiss-kiss -- me and mom saying bye and kissing her two cats
Zoom zoom -- driving mom's car
Vroom vroom -- driving the rental car
Snore snore -- me sleeping :)
Chomp chomp -- me snacking on those yummy Chicken Biskit crackers :)
Bom-a bom-a bum bum bum boom-a boom-a boom boom boom -- me listening to my music!
Slurp slurp, slurp slurp -- mom and me drinking our starbucks drinks
Thunk-thunk-thunk-BUMP....BUMP-thunk-thunk-thunk -- the stupid road that had like stripes of tar that made the car vibrate everytime we went over them, and the zillions of bridges that we went over.
Drip drop -- the neverending rain
Grr grr -- me being grouchy at the slow drivers in front of me that refuse to move to the middle lane.
Roar roar -- me speeding up to pass them
Look look -- mom telling me to look at my speedometer
Growl growl -- me getting mad at mom
Nibble nibble -- me and mom eating our chocolate chip cookie that we got at starbucks
There there -- me directing mom to our hotel
yay yay! -- me and mom's arrival!

the town that we're staying at.
Ok, so this is Hicksville, Tennessee. I mean, literally.
There's such a strange mish-mash of things here.
They have these hippy-dippy street names such as Strawberry Plains, Mellowsweet, and Wood Song thrown in with your generic Kennedy, Draper, and Lora street names.
I saw, oh, let's say, maybe 234,748,323 pick-up trucks and commonplace sedans, along with a couple of suburbans, Jeeps, and vans thrown in for good measure. And there we were, cruising along in our bright blue PT Cruiser rental. Boy, did we stick out.
And one of the cars we pulled up alongside was SCARY. I mean she had a pasty, doughy face with one of those mouths that just gaped at you. She had a old pair of 1970's style glasses that took up half of her face and was maybe as thick. She also had a old shirt with faded bright pink and blue flowers on it. I could SWEAR I saw her in Texas Chainsaw Massacre as the murderer's mother or something like that.
The sign for the college we were headed to, Johnson Bible College, had 5 signs for churches next to it. Five. And they were all different churches, mind you.
The players at the College had..."unusual" mascots. The male team's mascot was the Preachers. The female team's mascot was Evangelicals. Can you see it? "We are the Mighty Preachers, hear us quote scripture!" Just doesn't have the same ring to it.
Since they're so religious, they're the nicest mean team I've ever seen. They'd foul so hard that our boys'd fall down, and then they'd offer a hand to help you up. Love thy enemy and all that jazz, I guess.
And last of all. I saw something that I NEVER thought I'd ever see again. I will just put a picture here. It'll say everything for me.
That scrunchie. Hairy, bright colored, scrunchie.
If I ever have to live in this kind of town, shoot me.

Backseat Drivers
Why is it that mothers are always backseat drivers? I mean, she was literally restraining herself from crawling into my seat and taking the wheel from me.
We were driving along in our brilliantly blue PT Cruiser rental and I was doing 80 (the speed limit was 70). She told me to "SLOW DOWN". I'm like...I'm not doing THAT much over the speed limit (Everyone knows that the speed limit is just a suggestion and you're supposed to do at least 5 MPH over the speed limit!)
Then she said I was driving too fast for this little car. I just gaped at her and then finally gathered my wits and said, "If 80 MPH was too fast for this car, they wouldn't have put 120 on the speedometer." At this, she said, "I don't care, slow down." So I didn't have any choice except to slow down.
Mothers.
She was snoozing in the seat next to me and every time (I mean, EVERY TIME) she woke up, she'd make a comment, and then go back to sleep.
"You're too close to that truck."
"Slow down, you're going too fast."
"Stay in the middle lane if you're not going to pass anyone."
At this point, I just yelled at her to leave me alone.
At the next restroom stop, when I came back from the bathroom, she was sitting resolutely in the driver seat. And then she proceeded to drive at 65 MPH for the rest of the trip.
There you have it, my mother! I love her anyway :)
Oh yes, and the question of the year.
"Why does the 'expected arrival time' on the GPS keep increasing? It was 4:17 and now it's 4:24...does that mean I'm driving too slow?"
um. YES!

The Encore of Cheering Boy!
So guess who I saw today at the MSSD vs. MSD basketball game?
You guessed it, Cheering Boy!
(No, his friend, Wave Girl, wasn't there. At least, I didn't see her.)
This time, Cheering Boy chose to show his spirit as the school mascot!
This way, he could dance all he wanted on the floor without anyone pelting him with candy and telling him to sit down.
In the space of 2 hours, he did perhaps 3 or 4 different styles of dance.
There was the hoedown, which was performed behind the cheerleaders while they were doing their halftime performance. Yes, a hoedown. He was doing this kind of weird step and kick routine, which evolved into a high sideways-kicking dance. A true, bona fide, hoedown.
And then there was the striptease dance. He was crawling around on the floor, shaking his booty and shrugging his shoulders in a suggestive way. While dressed as an eagle. Yyyyup.
Then there was the Russian dance. Yes, the bend-down-until-your-knees-are-90-degrees, kicking-with-your-arms-crossed kind of dance. Don't ask me why.
Lastly, there was the break dancing. At least the attempt at break dancing. He did cartwheels up and down the floor which ended with a fanfare when he fell flat onto his stomach. And then he attempted a headstand and fell flat on his back.
I saw him after the game with his mascot costume off and he was sweating like a pig.
Good times. Side-busting good times.

Door-blocker, stair-blocker, and fun-freer!
Door-blockers and stair-blockers. You've all experienced them.
that person who stops in front of the doorway and decides to put on her sweater. Blocking the other five students behind her trying to get out.
Or that group of people who decided that they simply HAVE to catch up immediately, right outside the doorway. Forcing you to go through or around them.
And the stair-blockers. Just as bad. They decide to start talking and stand side-by-side and chat away while people have to push and shove through them.
And today I had to go to my final project presentation and this group of staff/faculty decided to take their group picture on the stairway. The only stairway from the downstairs to the upstairs. And they took 15 minutes doing it. While I was glaring at them and trying to mentally tell them to HURRY UP!
Anyway, speaking of final project presentations, that is now known as fun-freer! I am now FREE to have FUN because I am OFFICIALLY DONE WITH THIS SEMESTER!
WOOOOOO-HOOOO
now I'm free to go home
hooray!

WOOOOOO-HOOOO
now I'm free to go home
hooray!

Famine and Vaginas
I'm taking part in a 30-hour Famine sponsored by WorldVision. It's an event to raise money and awareness for hungry children around the world. So basically what I did was raise money (the minimum was 180 and I raised $360 to donate), and the money will be sent off tomorrow.
Then in December, I'll not eat for thirty hours so that I can be more aware of how the children who are chronically hungry are feeling everyday.
So, I'm really looking forward to the challenge and the awareness.
I'm also taking part in the Vagina Monologues here in February. I'm so excited for it. I'll update some more about it later when it actually happens.

Mouses.
No, that wasn't a typo.
Last weekend, at my friend's house, a guy said he saw three mouses. I told him, it's mice. Then as I giggled, I told The College Sister what he said, and he interuppted with "mices". Again, I said, "MICE!" Then I asked another guy to tell me the plural of mouse. He said mouses. And another guy. And another. So literally the whole football team said mouses with a few exceptions.
Two said mice was the singular, and mouse was the plural. A couple said mices. One said "rats" which was hilarious. Only three of the boys gave me the right answer.
Then the original guy and the second guy to say "mouses" decided to try and get me back, so they asked me to tell them the word for the birds that tend to go on football fields. When I said I didn't know what they meant, they said they could be white and black, or gray, or silver, or white. (I told them they already said white, but they ignored me.) Somehow, I figured out that it was geese. Then the first guy told me, "ok, so what's the plural?"
"Um, that IS the plural."
"Ok, so what's the singular?"
"Goose."
At this, they commenced to jump up and down while giggling manically.
"Um, that's the right word."
The first guy stopped jumping and said, "She's right."
I just stared at them and said, "You just made yourself look even stupider."
They didn't have a response.
I guess they took one too many hits on the head.
Aaanyway, for Thanksgiving, there's a Thanksgiving basketball classic here that The College Sister's playing in so my Dad and Baby Sister is coming up. I can't wait.
I'm also getting a haircut that weekend--the bottom part of my hair's dead. So I can't wait for that.
That's pretty much all the news I have so far :)

oops.
Ok so it's pretty much the next weekend and I still haven't updated :)
here's my update!
Ok, first of all, the Green Festival...
It was great! What we did wasn't so much fun, mind you, but the festival itself was so interesting. But I'm getting ahead of myself.
Upon arrival, we headed to get registered and get our Green Festival Staff T-shirts (which was really cool) and then Clean Freak, Froggie, and I were assigned our own station. There was four bins there which were labeled Paper, Compost, Recycle, and Landfill. We were responsible for telling people which bin to throw things into. One of the cool things we saw there was that all the little plastic cups they had samples in were actually compostable. I know, plastic is compostable?!?!?! Since when?? Well since they're made out of corn and sugar cane. So they're compostable. It was really cool--you could barely tell except for the fact that they had a slightly different texture. We took turns taking individual breaks so that we could walk around the festival and check out all the booths. (It was indoor at the Conference Center in Chinatown.) So it was fun seeing all the booths with all the "green" things you could imagine--including elephant dung paper crafts, organic cotton clothing, recycled sailcloth bags, "green" movers, etc etc. So it was a learning experience.
After the festival closed, we all gathered up all the bags from the bins and brought them to the back and sorted through the trash. Some people had thrown things into the wrong bin so we had to re-sort everything to make sure the right stuff went to the right place. There was a U-Haul sized truck for the compost trash bags, another truck for the paper materials, a huge bin for the recycables, and I don't know where the trash went. But there was so many things that went into the compost, paper, and recyclables areas. I couldn't believe how little was thrown away. Makes me happier to see that people are doing something about saving the Earth.
Anyway, after that, us girls had a wine and cheese party. It was a lot of fun because it was just us girls (at first) and we shared wine and cheese and played games and had all around fun. We dressed up and wore heels and things like that. Then some boys crashed our party (:P) but it was still a great day/night for me.
So what else is new?
Oh yes, my boyfriend broke up with me.
I don't wanna go into the details here so I'll just say he needed some space and leave it at that. Yes, I'm okay (not 100% but you get the gist) but yeah...it's hard for me right now.
So...as for homework, I'm pretty much caught up in all the classes except for one, but I plan to spend THIS weekend just focusing on that one homework/paper. Wish me luck once again :)
here's my update!

Football, Cheering, and Sickness.
Football, Cheering, and Sickness, oh my.
Tomorrow's the last home football game of the season. Sorta bittersweet because I'm happy that it's ending, but it went by too fast. So I'm cheering my last football game for this year. We've been working our asses off for most of the season, so it's all good. Tomorrow'll be fun.
Only if the Wicked Witch of the Sickness doesn't interfere.
I think I've been having a fever for the past three days. I've felt sweaty most of the three days, and felt really hot. Didn't sleep well the last three nights either, because kept waking up in the middle of the night, only it was like, a quarter to the middle of the night, halfway to the middle of the night, the middle of the night, a quarter after the middle of the night, halfway after the middle of the night, and a hour before the alarm.
Damn that hour. I can't fall asleep because I'm expecting the alarm to go off. Just when I finally do, the alarm goes off.
Anyway, so tomorrow I have two classes in the morning...then the football game. Then the Green Festival on Saturday, then Dorm Swap filming ( a show I'm guest-hosting for the campus TV station) on Sunday. And sometimes in between, trying to finish all the goddamn homework I've got to turn in by the next week.
So. Yeah. Don't expect any posts this weekend. But if I do post, yell at me and tell me to do my homework.

Man's Best Friend
This campus is petist. Not racist, but petist.
Pretty much the only pet that's actually allowed on campus are dogs. (I don't count the pets that were snuck into the dorms illegally) Other than fish in a certain size tank, that's the only pet you can have in your dorms. The reason for this is that the dogs are supposedly "hearing" dogs. Of course, the majority of the dogs are puppies and/or miniature dogs such as poodles that poop on the staircases or chihuahuas with anxiety disorders.
So what's wrong with other pets? As long as we register them or let the resident advisors know that they are here, I think we should be allowed to have other pets in the dorm rooms. And of course, as long as the other roommates in the room approve.
I really, really, really want a hedgehog. They're the cutest little creatures ever, and so unique. They're easy to care for, fun to play with, and how can you resist their cute little black noses?
But nooo, the dorm policy (and Clean Freak) says they're not allowed in the rooms...So it's no pet for me.
It's injustice, I say. Down with Petism! Care to join me on my protest march to the Campus Activities desk?

People Watching
The other day I went to the Maryland vs. MSSD high school football game. It was pleasantly cool that night, instead of the windy, freezing, I-can't-feel-my-extremities, kind of cold we've been having lately.
I couldn't sit with The Boyfriend because his coach made the football team sit together, so I sat in the MSSD section. (Being a rival of Maryland deemed it impossible for me to sit in the Maryland section.) And the game ended up being boring as MSSD got killed, so I started people watching.
I watched two people in particular. I'll call them the Wave Girl and the Cheering Boy. The Wave Girl was desperately trying to get the MSSD section to perform a wave. You know a wave, it's when people stand up row by row and make a "wave". Anyway, Wave Girl was trying to get everyone to look at her and perform the wave as she commanded. But of course, everyone ignored her and went on watching the game/talking with each other/fighting over free candy. So while I was watching her, she actually got so angry that the crowd wasn't following her that she actually was beginning to cry. She crossed her arms and stomped off to the other side of the section where she began telling the one friend who would pay attention to her all about how lousy the fans were and how they needed better spirit to support the team, etc etc.
That cracked me up.
Now for Cheering Boy. He was standing on the very left of the section, (I was sitting in the middle of the section, both from left to right and from front to back.) and he was doing a chant from MSSD but he was butchering it. I mean he was doing it horribly--it was kind of hard to watch. But he was refusing to stop. Even after people told him to sit down. And told him again. And threw their free candy at him. He wouldn't stop. He says he was cold and he was shivering and "I'm going to dance until I warm up then I'll stop." After shifting my attention to Wave Girl for a while, I noticed Cheering Boy was missing. I finally found him on the other side of the section (the far right side) next to Wave Girl discussing how lousy the fans were. Then he proceeded to start up his chant on the other side amid a fresh wave of protests.
That cracked me up as well.
After a while, and a cupful of really good, really hot apple cider, I realized upon returning to my seat that Cheering Boy was now in two rows in front of me in the bleachers. And he was still doing his chant. While blocking my view.
Now it wasn't not so funny anymore.
Right then, MSSD scored a touchdown. Cheering Boy immediately turned around and said, "Come on! WE JUST SCORED! Stand up! Show your spirit!" then he nudged the boy next to him and said, "Wow, our fans are really lousy, they don't even support the team, if they don't want to show their support then why don't they leave???"...and I noticed that he was more concerned about yelling at the crowd instead of cheering for the actual touchdown.
Good times.
